The South African Payroll Association is pleased to call for nominations for the SAPA Awards.

If you have never entered these awards or nominated anyone for these awards then the time is now! With R40 000 worth of cash prizes for the winners, you simply cannot afford not to enter.

Entrants must choose one of 5 categories to enter:
Payroll Professional Senior (R5000 cash prize)
Payroll Professional Junior (R5000 cash prize)
Payroll Team (R10 000 cash prize)
Professionally Designated Member (CPT, CPAP, CPP) (R5000 cash prize per designation)
SAPA Social Butterfly (R5000 cash prize)

Payroll Professional Junior

The Junior Payroll Professional is recognised for outstanding service and going the extra mile in their organisation and making a key difference to the function of Payroll Administration.

The nominee must demonstrate compliance to regulatory standards and company policies relating to payroll. Judges will be looking for the following achievements:

  • Service beyond the call of duty
  • Outstanding contribution to the employer
  • Excellent team player


Payroll Professional Senior

The Senior Payroll Professional is responsible for the full payroll function and for providing a high quality of service to the organisation. This Professional can demonstrate implementation of effective payroll process in a robust control environment, and optimisation of systems and processes to drive delivery improvement.

The nominee must have detailed knowledge of payroll legislation and company policies pertaining to payroll procedures, as well as an understanding of governance, risk management and internal control concepts. Judges will be looking for:

  • Technical excellence
  • Leadership qualities
  • Keeping abreast of current trends
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Use of payroll information to communicate to senior, middle and low management


Payroll Professional Team

This team of payroll professionals is responsible for the implementation of payroll processes and procedures and is recognised by their organisation as a team which adds value and strategic benefit to the organisation as a whole.

The team is responsible for payroll service delivery, exercises robust control, and complies with Payroll legislations and company policies.

The team is recognised in the organisation as providing service excellence to all stakeholders, both internal and external, and demonstrates an improvement in one or more of the following categories:

  • Reduction in financial costs
  • Providing management information
  • Team engagement across organisation
  • Employee satisfaction
  • Reflecting a strong sense of teamwork
  • Significant improvements in payroll performance
  • Achievements of targets
  • Implementation of new procedures or systems


Certified Payroll Technician

The Certified Payroll Technician is recognised for outstanding service during their first year/s within the payroll industry.


The nominee must demonstrate compliance to the professionalisation designation process by completing the following criteria:

  • Certified Payroll Technician
  • 1 year payroll experience
  • Studying or completed Payroll Administration Certificate
  • Meet CPD requirements are met
  • Be prepared to complete an assessment


Certified Payroll Administrator Practitioner

The Certified Payroll Administrator Practitioner is responsible for the full payroll function and for providing a high quality of service to the organisation.

The nominee must demonstrate compliance to the professionalisation designation process by completing the following criteria:

  • Certified Payroll Administrator Practitioner
  • 5 years payroll experience
  • Completed Payroll Administration Certificate
  • Meet CPD requirements are met
  • Be prepared to complete an assessment


Certified Payroll Practitioner

The Certified Payroll Practitioner is responsible for the full payroll function and for providing a high quality of service to the organisation.

The nominee must demonstrate compliance to the professionalisation designation process by completing the following criteria:

  • Certified Payroll Practitioner
  • 5 – 10 years payroll experience
  • Completed Payroll Administration National Diploma or Financial Degree
  • Meet CPD requirements are met
  • Be prepared to complete an assessment


South African Payroll Association Social Butterfly

This payroll professional is recognised for contributing towards the South African Payroll Association experience by engaging and encouraging participation.

The nominee must demonstrate and should have completed the following criteria:

  • Attend at least 80% of all South African Payroll Association Events
  • Participate actively on the South African Payroll Association membership platforms on social media, WhatsApp group, survey’s, etc.
  • Be a brand ambassador for South African Payroll Association by representing and demonstrating the South African Payroll Association code of ethics
